Gilford provided pre-construction as well as Design / Build services for a new Child Care Center and integral playground on a 4-acre site at the National Institutes of Health’s Bethesda, MD campus.
Pre-construction services included assembling a design review team to provide coordination amongst design consultants as well as reviews to ensure completeness of design documents and compliance with NIH campus guidelines. Gilford prepared cost estimates in conjunction with each progress review to assess constructability; provided value engineering and budget maintenance; and tracked the design schedule.
Phase II – Construction services included selective site demolition and construction of the new single-story building as well as outdoor playground and related site improvements. Site conditions were improved via removal of unsuitable soil and the addition of structural fill. The buildings radial design (metric) required 100 steel columns for the 19,000 sf building.
