Gilford’s role in the construction of the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center on the banks of the Potomac River in Prince George’s County, MD was twofold:
- Project Management Support: Gilford provided management support to the Perini/Tompkins Joint Venture, general contractor for the construction of the 2,000-room Hotel and Convention Center. Gilford oversaw mechanical and plumbing construction and commissioning for the Hotel, Convention Center, Central Utility Plant, and Data Center.
- General Contracting: Gilford also served as General Contractor for the concrete structure and interior finishes components for the expansion of the Hotel, which increased the number of guestrooms to 2,000. This component of the cast-in-place concrete hotel encompassed construction of 500 luxury hotel rooms and suites with multiple high-end fixtures and finishes such as marble foyers, kitchens, hardwood floors, bath suites, and floor-to-ceiling windows.
Upon its completion in April 2008, the 2.4 million sf, 20-story Gaylord National became the largest convention hotel and complex on the Eastern Seaboard. With a soaring 18-story glass atrium, spectacular views of the Potomac River, and nearly two acres of gardens, the hotel features luxurious accommodations, four top-rated restaurants, spa and fitness center with indoor pool, nightclub, and private marina along with an assortment of shops and entertainment venues. The 470,000 sf Convention Center includes Exhibit Halls, Ballrooms, Meeting Rooms, and associated support spaces and the central plant.
